BANJARBARU - A forest and land fire (karhutla) almost scorched one of the land-owning huts in Bandasan Ulin Selatan Village, Liang Anggang District, Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan.

Karhutla has approached the hut of a land owner named Mariani (52), but volunteers from the Banjarbaru fire department (BPK) cut off the hotspots so that they did not spread to the hut.

"I arrived at three in the afternoon, the distance from the fire to the hut was about five meters," said Mariani in Banjarbaru as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 3.

Mariani said that she did not know the origin of the hotspots that caused the fire in her neighborhood, she claimed to be one of the owners of land in a location with an area of approximately one hectare.

He revealed that forest and land fires not only devoured the land, but also spread to other areas, which are estimated to have burned about 15 hectares.

At around 18.00 WITA, a water bombing helicopter passed once on a burning land while dropping a water bomb.

Mariani admitted that she was quite panicked when she saw the area of her hut on fire, she expressed her gratitude to the volunteers who swiftly cut the hotspots so as not to burn the hut.

Meanwhile, a volunteer from BPK Banjarbaru Ramadhan (23) at the scene said his team knew about the incident through a glimpse of the surrounding sky.

"At two o'clock this afternoon smoke was seen above the sky, we went straight to the location to make sure," said Ramadhan.

As of 19.18 WITA, the flames were still burning with only about five officers, so it was seen that the volunteers were quite tired of handling the flames.
