Den Zipur Kodam Cenderawasih Destroys PD II Bombs At Silas Papare Sentani Air Base

JAYAPURA - Silas Papare Air Base destroyed a bomb from World War II that was found in a housing complex in Sentani, Jayapura Regency, Papua.

The bomb destruction was carried out by being detonated by Den Zipur Kodam XVII Cenderawasih, Tuesday, July 11.

Commander of Silas Air Base Papare Marsma TNI Dadan Gunawan explained that the 250 kg bomb was found while road construction workers were doing their job and this was the fifth discovery.

During PD II, Silas Papare Air Base was one of the airports used by General Douglas Mc Arthur to fight Japan's occupation of the Asia Pacific region.

The bomb was found at a depth of one meter intact. In addition to bombs, pineapple grenades and mines were also found, he said.

He said it was possible that bombs or other explosives were still found in this area, so he hoped to be careful.

If anyone finds a PD II bomb, they are expected to report it to the security forces to be secured in order to avoid unwanted things from happening.
