Dozens Of Residents Of Bolo Hamlet Evacuated Due To Hot Clouds Falling Mount Karangetang, North Sulawesi

A total of 17 residents or nine families of Bolo Hamlet, Taroane Village, East Siau District, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, were evacuated due to hot clouds falling from Mount Karangetang.

"Currently, it is currently in the evacuation process," said Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Sitaro Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sonny Belseran in Manado, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 10.

The residents of Bolo Hamlet who were evacuated, he said, were very close to the point where the hot clouds fell, which was about 750 meters.

"It is very close to the distance. That's why the steps taken by the government together with other relevant agencies are to evacuate," he said.

He hoped that residents would not return for a while to the hamlet after the evacuation steps began at 08.10 WITA.

"They will be evacuated to Taroane Village," he said.

After being evacuated and temporarily evacuated, the government will distribute food logistics to affected families.

The Karangetang Volcano Observation Post on Siau Island recorded hot clouds falling at 07.58 WITA.

"The sliding distance is estimated to be two kilometers and leads to the Kahetang River or the southeast sector," said Head of the Karangetang Volcano Observation Post, Yudia P Tatipang in Manado.

Residents who were temporarily evacuated were directed to the Bukit Zaitun Tampuna Church, Taroane Neighborhood IV Village, RT 02.
