Harun Masiku Never Arrested, ICW: KPK Pretext Only Gimmick

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was not serious in looking for his fugitive, Harun Masiku. The search, which has been said to have been carried out, is only considered a gimmick because the former legislative candidate (caleg) has been on the run for more than 1,200 days.

This was conveyed by ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana in response to the statement by Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur who stated that he had sent people to check on Harun's whereabouts.

"The various excuses expressed by the Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK recently, ICW believes it is just a gimmick," Kurnia told reporters in a written statement quoted on Monday, July 10.

Kurnia stated that since the beginning the anti-corruption commission seemed not focused on looking for Harun. There is even an impression of protecting the suspect in the interim replacement bribery (PAW) case for members of the DPR RI.

"Not only that, the supervisory function of the enforcement process by the Supervisory Board also looks blunt," he said.

Therefore, ICW is increasingly confident that in the future Harun will not be caught, especially before the political year. This is because the KPK during the leadership of Firli Bahuri is considered the most afraid of dealing with politicians.

"This case like Harun will definitely be difficult to uncover. The KPK is not unable to find Harun's whereabouts but does not want to," said Kurnia.

For information, the KPK is still pursuing three fugitives. They are Kirana Kotama who has been wanted since 2017 for alleged bribery in filing for a revision of forest function in Riau Province in 2014 to the Ministry of Forestry.

Second, Paulus Tannos who stumbled upon the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Electronic Identity Cards (e-KTP). He is currently in Singapore.

Furthermore, former candidate Harun Masiku is also still at large. The suspect who gave bribes to former General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan is still unknown.
