Kemenkominfo Coordination Alleged Passport Data Of 34 Million Indonesian Citizens Leaked

The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) said it had coordinated with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and the Directorate General of Immigration regarding the alleged leakage of passport data belonging to 34 million Indonesian citizens.

The Director General of Information and Public Communication (Dirjen IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Usman Kansong, said that the three parties were still investigating and examining the alleged data leak.

"Temporary results, there are differences in the data structure between those in the National Data Center and those in circulation. The team is still conducting searches," said Usman as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 5.

Previously, it was reported that as many as 34 million Indonesian passport data were allegedly leaked and traded, this information was revealed by cybersecurity practitioner Teguh Aprianto through a tweet on his Twitter account.

"For those who already have a passport, congratulations because 34 million passport data have just been leaked and traded," Teguh wrote in his tweet on the @secgron account.

Teguh explained that the leaked information data included passport numbers, validity date of passport, full name, date of birth, and gender.

In the portal, said Teguh, the perpetrator provided samples of 1 million data. "When viewed from the sample data provided, the data looks valid. The Timestamp is from 2009-2020," he wrote.

Citing a screenshot shared by Teguh on his Twitter account, it is known that the data sells for 10 thousand US dollars or around Rp. 150 million. There is also information regarding the capacity of the compressed and uncompressed data as large as 4GB, the amount of data amounting to 34,900,867, was broken into in July 2023, the CSV format, and the Indonesian state.

Responding to this, the Directorate General of Immigration became the first party to respond to the findings and said the search was carried out after receiving news of data leakage.

So far, the Directorate General of Immigration said that passport data is currently in the National Data Center managed by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
