114 Buildings In Gunungkidul Damaged Due To The Yogyakarta Earthquake, One Person Experiencing Broken Bones

GUNUNGKIDUL - A total of 114 buildings in Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), were damaged by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 that occurred on Friday, June 30.

Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Gunungkidul Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sumadi, said, based on data entered by the Operations Control Center (Pusdalops), damage to buildings ranging from light to severe.

The level of damage was mostly light and moderate, such as a detachment, until the house's walls were cracked.

"The data is still temporary. We are still collecting data on the field due to the earthquake on Friday, June 30, 2023," said Sumadi.

Sumardi said the damage to the building was spread across 12 sub-districts/capatewon in the Gunungkidul area. "Of the total 114 damage, the most affected are residents' houses," he said, as quoted from Antara, Saturday, July 1.

"Other include office buildings, livestock cages, houses of worship, schools, markets, and electricity networks," continued Sumadi.

In addition, said Sumadi, the Gunungkidul BPBD received reports of injured victims and displaced residents.

Based on reports that came in, he continued, there were five injured victims, one of whom suffered a fracture and was treated at the Wonosari Hospital. While others suffered minor injuries, minor trauma, and had fainted.

Furthermore, there are two families who have to evacuate because the condition of their house is considered unsafe to live in. The first family is in Mangejo, Semanu, while the other family is in Ponjong. The family in Ponjong fled to the relative's house.

"Meanwhile, those in Semanu fled outside their homes, making emergency tents because there were members who had a stroke," said Sumadi.

The current situation is conducive. However, he said, efforts to handle and monitor the impact of last night's earthquake were still being carried out.

"Hopefully there will be no other damage and the situation will be more conducive," said Sumadi.
