Nadiem: Independent Curriculum Focuses On Deepening The Competency Of Students

JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim stated that the Merdeka Curriculum does not prioritize the acceleration of learning, but focuses on deepening the competence of students. "The Independent Curriculum focuses on deepening, not on speed, so no more teachers are rushed to complete the material because of the large amount of material that must be covered and controlled," he said at the Peak of the Merdeka Curriculum Festival in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, June 27. Nadiem explained that this was because the Independent Curriculum was present to resolve the issue of the learning crisis that had been going on for a long time plus learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the Merdeka Curriculum was formed by focusing on learning materials that are more essential, fun, relevant, and prioritizing the competence development of students. He believes that the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum are adaptive and can be used in various conditions in accordance with educational or flexible unit conditions so that teachers can be free to create learning. In addition, the Merdeka Curriculum which focuses on student needs is also an advantage and differentiator of the Merdeka Curriculum from the previous curriculum. "Every Indonesian child has the right to a much more quality, much more enjoyable, and much more meaningful learning," he said. Nadiem also invited all stakeholders to share good practices and strengthen mutual cooperation in implementing the Independent Curriculum massively.

"This inspiring story is expected to encourage teachers to develop innovative learning and provide space for students to develop their interests and potential," he said.
