European Union Launches 11th Sanction Package Against Russia

JAKARTA - The European Union launched its 11th sanction package against Russia for its attack on Ukraine.

The Council of the European Union announced in a statement that it was launching "steps aimed at strengthening existing EU sanctions and cracking down on their abuse," as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, June 23.

With that decision, EU blacklisted 87 "entities directly supporting the Russian military and industrial complexes" that must face stricter export restrictions on goods and multiple-use technologies.

On the list four Iranian companies supply military drones to Russia, as well as companies from other countries that contribute to avoiding trade bans.

The bloc also prohibits transiting more EU-made goods and technologies that can be used for military purposes through Russian territory.

The EU extended the ban on the transportation of Russian goods to Russia-listed trailers and semi-trialers, and banned any ships carrying out inter-ship transfers to dock at EU ports.

The decision also revoked the broadcasting permit of five media closely related to the Russian state.

Meanwhile, the EU announced the so-called "final steps" that could limit the trade of goods and technology to third countries if they were proven "substantially and systematically" to avoid EU sanctions.

The targets of previous sanctions were Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and banned imports of gold, oil and coal and exports of luxury and high technology goods, as well as removing Russian and Belarusian banks from SWIFT's international payment system.
