The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) said there were four questions that needed to be clarified to the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes), Indramayu Regency, West Java, which had been in the public spotlight on the pesantren.

Chairman of the Research, Study and Development Commission of MUI Firdaus Syam said the four points, among others, the statement by the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School Leader Panji Gumilang regarding the origin of the Al-Quran Bible, the interpretation of the Holy Verse of the Quran, the interpretation of the Holy Land, and the interpretation of relations with the opposite sex.

"We will ask for Panji Gumilang's willingness to be able to clarify his questions even though the MUI team actually already has very accurate data facts," said Firdaus Syam at the Sate building, Bandung City, West Java, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 23.

In addition, he regretted the attitude of Panji Gumilang who was reluctant to meet with the Central MUI Team while attending the summons of the Investigation Team formed by the Governor of West Java at Gedung Sate.

In fact, he said, previously the Central MUI Team had tried several times to clarify, even going to the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School in Indramayu. In addition, he said, official letters from MUI sent to Al-Zaytun so far have not been responded to.

"We are disappointed, we know that tabayun means asking for clarity about these statements so that all of these can be 'clear' and MUI can provide an assessment based on the principles of Islamic teachings," he said.

He ensured that MUI would immediately determine steps related to the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School issue because MUI had complete data regarding the existence and activities of Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School since 2002.

"This MUI already has very accurate facts and data and we can report this to the leadership and then bring it to the MUI Fatwa Commission Session, whether it has been categorized as irregularities, blasphemy, blasphemy, blasphemy religion or not," he said.
