Sleman Satpol PP: Illegal Cigarette Sellers Are Fined 3 Times The Price Of Cigarettes

SLEMAN - Illegal cigarette sellers who were caught, not only confiscated their cigarette evidence, but also imposed witnesses with a fine of three times the price of cigarettes.

This statement was conveyed by the Head of Enforcement of Legislation Laws (Satpol PP) of Sleman Regency Sri Madu Rakyanto after the Illegal Tobacco Excise Ascension Goods Control Team (BKCHT) together with Satpol PP brought order to 380 illegal cigarettes with the Smith and Luffman brands from two stalls in Kapanewon Turi.

"The cigarettes are categorized as illegal cigarettes because they are not equipped with excise duty and official labels," said Sri Madu Rakyanto as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 20.

According to him, this operation is a form of responsibility from the Sleman Regency Government regarding the profit-sharing funds of BKCHT. The team consists of the Sleman Regency Satpol PP, Yogyakarta Customs, and the TNI/Polri Sleman Regency.

"This activity is in order to eradicate the circulation of illegal cigarettes. Cigarettes that are not in accordance with statutory provisions related to products that do not have excise or use fake excise," he said again.

Sri Madu emphasized that the circulation of illegal cigarettes in this area is detrimental to state revenues and public health.

"We cannot see the content in this illegal shop because it is not standardized from the official factory," he said.

According to him, it is different from the BKCHT control operation last year. In the current operating activity, sellers who were proven to be selling illegal cigarettes this time were not only confiscated, but were subject to fines.

"The hope is that the seller will be more aware that they will lose and will also be fined for the sale of illegal cigarettes," he said.

Yogyakarta Pamadi Customs Officer said that the illegal cigarettes seized were subject to a remedium fine after the regulation of the Ministry of Finance.

"Dendaultimum remedium, which is three times the value of illegal cigarette excise," he said.

In this operation, the team managed to confiscate illegal cigarettes under the Smith and Luffman brands. A total of 380 illegal cigarettes with a fine of Rp. 811,000.00.

"With the fine, we hope to be able to provide a deterrent effect, both for sellers and illegal cigarette agents. We also hope that this operation will be able to prevent the circulation of cigarettes from downstream," he said.

Furthermore, the illegal cigarettes that were confiscated during this operation will be used as evidence and further investigation will be carried out.
