The Joint Team For Arresting Fish Bombing Ships Arrested In Aceh, Was Given Warning Shots

The joint patrol team of the Simeulue Police and the Lampulo Marine Resources Supervisor (PSDKP) caught fishing vessels using fish bombs and eight crew members in the waters of Simeulue Island, Aceh.

Simeulue Police Chief AKBP Jatmiko said the fishing bomber was arrested in Lewak Waters, Alafan District, Simeulue Regency.

"The arrest of the ship was colored by warning shots into the air because it fled when approached by officers. The arrest of the ship with eight crew members was carried out Friday, June 9 at 16.00 WIB," said Jatmiko, quoted from Antara, Sunday, June 11.

The middle-ranking police officer began with a joint patrol of the Polairud Unit and the Simeulue Police Criminal Investigation Unit together with the Lampulo PSDKP team in Lewak Waters or three nautical miles from the beach.

While on patrol, the team saw a suspicious ship. The joint patrol team approached the ship. However, when approached, the ship drove fast to escape.

"Officers fired warning shots into the air, but the ship continued to go fast. A joint patrol team chased the ship," said the Police Chief.

The chase lasted for 30 minutes. Officers finally approached the ship. Then, the officers then searched the ship and checked the crew.

The ship is known to have originated from Sibolga, North Sumatra.

The evidence that was secured was a ship along with three tons of mixed fish, five bottles of used glass, several sticks of cucumber, matches, firecrackers, and plastic sandals.

"Meanwhile, the explosives ready to use were dumped by the crew of the ship. Furthermore, the investigation of the case was handled by the Lampulo PSDKP, Banda Aceh," said Jatmiko.

Simeulue Island is the outermost island district in Aceh Province. Simeulue Island is located in the Indian Ocean, which is about 180 nautical miles from the west coast of Sumatra Island.
