Medan District Court Starts To Tried 2 Couriers Of 20 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine And 30,000 Ecstasy Pills From Riau

The Medan District Court (PN) tried two defendants, namely Erwan Sahputra alias Iwan and Cituan alias Atik, residents of Riau suspected of being couriers of 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 30,000 ecstasy pills.

"Yes, that's right, yesterday (31/5) the two defendants had their charges read out. Next week with the agenda of the exception trial from the defendant's legal advisor," said the Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office Maria Fr. Br. Tarigan in Medan quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 1.

In front of the presiding judge Denny Lumbantobing, Wednesday (31/5) Maria explained that the two defendants were Ayang's orders (under investigation) to collect methamphetamine from the Bakao River, Bagan Readyi-api, Riau areas to Pekan Baru and North Sumatra.

"Then Allabis alias Awi (in the investigation) was ordered by Anyang to meet Erwan and Cituan in the Bakao River area to deliver the methamphetamine and ecstasy on March 30, 2023," said Maria.

After that, said Maria, the two defendants were sent money from Ayang through an account worth Rp. 5 million to rent a car and other accommodation needs.

Then, Allabis gave a burlap sack containing 20 plastic packs weighing 20 kg of crystal methamphetamine. Then, six white plastic packs containing ecstasy pills contain 27,000 pills, and blue plastic containing 3,000 ecstasy pills.

Chronology of the initial incident on April 1, 2023, at around 00.10 WIB, police officers from the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate arrested the two defendants at the exit of the Pekan Baru toll gate, Muara Fajar Village, Rumbai Kota District, Pekan Baru.

Furthermore, police officers searched the car and found a sack in which there was a carton containing 20 kg of crystal methamphetamine and 30,000 pills of ecstasy, and the two defendants were taken to the North Sumatra Police for further information.

For their actions, the two defendants were charged with criminal charges under Article 114 paragraph (2) or Article 112 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.
