JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin appreciated the meeting of two Islamic community organizations (ormas), Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, in an effort to prevent potential polarization of the 2024 presidential election.

"I think it's very good, yes. Indeed, we are in addition to the party, there are also strategic groups of people, especially mass organizations," said Ma'ruf Amin as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 25.

Ma'ruf Amin assessed that a similar meeting should also be held by other mass organizations to prevent divisions in society ahead or during the 2024 General Election.

"This organization is not only NU, Muhammadiyah, it is better if all these mass organizations also hold a joint meeting to prevent polarization and community division. Yes, so that this nation continues to be maintained, the role of the strategic group of mass organizations, I think is important," he said.

NU and Muhammadiyah agreed to call for moral leadership ahead of the 2024 General Election.

PBNU General Chair Yahya Cholil Staquf stated that in politics there needs to be a moral leadership so that it is not driven by pragmatic interests.

Yahya said that in the future PBNU and Muhammadiyah would continue various discussions to follow up on the results of the meeting. PBNU is also committed to carrying out political competitions in a cleaner manner and does not cause division in society.

Meanwhile, General Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir said that moral leadership is expected to make the 2024 election more dignified.

The moral leadership, according to Haedar, gave birth to a clear direction and national vision, so that political contestation was not in the form of an event to achieve power alone.
