Promoting Online Gambling On Social Media, Two Muratara Residents Arrested By Police

Two residents of North Musi Rawas Regency (Muratara), South Sumatra, who are suspected of promoting gambling on social media are threatened with imprisonment for six years and a fine worth Rp. 1 billion after being named a suspect by the local police. Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the North Musi Rawas Police AKP Jailili, said the threat of maximum punishment as stipulated in Article 27 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law number 19 of 2016 and article 27a paragraph 2 concerning electronic information containing gambling-charged content imposed by investigators to the two suspects. The suspect is a man with the initials AS (33) and RA (32), a resident in Hamlet 1, Karang Dapo District, Muratara. Determination of suspect status against both was carried out after investigators obtained sufficient evidence through witness and expert statements. Where, the evidence includes social media accounts YouTube and several mobile phones used by the suspect to promote online gambling sites. "Yes, the investigators of the suspects arrested since Thursday 10 May confirmed that the YouTube account belongs to them which was also used to promote online lottery gambling sites for the past four months," he explained, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 16. He explained, based on the suspect's confession to recklessly promoting gambling sites because of the lure of large profits. Their results reached Rp. 20 million per month through the activity of promoting these lottery sites. "The investigation process continues, does not rule out other networks and will be thoroughly investigated," he said.

"The information from the residents is considered important because it is known that the activities of suspects AS and RA have been revealed starting from reports from local people who claim to be restless about gambling content. The content made by the suspect is used as a spectacle to influence the desire of teenagers to local working classes to participate in gambling, "he concluded.
