Police Thwart Smuggling Of 7 Kangaroo From Papua

Police officers from the Ambon Yos Sudarso Port (KPYS) area, Maluku thwarted an attempt to smuggle seven endemic animals from Jayapura, Papua from the KM. Dobonsolo.

"Sevenlits were secured from KM Dobonsolo based on initial information received from the Maluku BKSDA and the Papua BKSDA," said KPYS Police Chief Iptu Julkisno Kaisupy as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 15.

According to him, the information stated that at KM Dobonsolo on the way from Papua to Yos Sudarso Ambon Port, Maluku, it was suspected that there were people who brought the protected animals.

"The endemic animals are intended to be brought to Surabaya, East Java by ship belonging to PT Pelni and transiting at Yos Sudarso Port Ambon," explained the police chief.

From the information obtained by the KPYS, together with the Maluku BKSDA officers both got on the ship to check and it turned out that it was true that sevenferoes were found in room 6018 so they were immediately secured and there was one rope that was dead.

After an interrogation of the person carrying the animal with the initials MY, it turned out that the person concerned worked as a loading and unloading worker at the port in Jayapura and helped keep the animal on board.

Then there was still one person who was also arrested by the police and while an examination was carried out whether he was involved or not.

From the person's narrative, the owner of this endemic animal is also on board the ship but the police who conducted the search have not found this person.

"KPYS Ambon is coordinating again with PT Pelni and BKSDA Surabaya to check there, because the plan is for this animal to be brought to Surabaya," he said.

Because according to the information received by the police, there were 20pairs and several cockatoos and parrots, while only seven parrots were found.

KPYS Ambon has also coordinated with the ship and examined all existing warehouses, but no other animals were found according to the reports received.

It is planned that these endemic animals will be sold in Surabaya at a price of between Rp. 30 million to Rp. 40 million per one chip from Papua.
