JAKARTA - The peak of the 42nd ASEAN Summit (KTT) which was held in Labuan Bajo ends today. The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, assessed that the highest conference in Southeast Asia had given an unforgettable impression and experience for all delegates present.

"I am proud to carry the name of Indonesia and present the face of Indonesia in Labuan Bajo with all the charm of stunning beauty. I am also sure that the experiences of the ASEAN country delegates while in Labuan Bajo give a special impression," said Puan, Thursday, May 11.

One of the agendas that has a valuable impression is when the delegations of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), which is a parliamentary forum for Southeast Asian countries, were invited by Puan to sail using the Phinisi Ship. The ASEAN parliamentary leader was invited to enjoy Labuan Bajo's dusk charm around the islands on a traditional Indonesian ship.

In addition, Puan also conveyed that the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Golo Mori, which is the venue side event of the ASEAN 2023 Summit, also has its own charm. This location is used as a meeting place for the ASEAN Youth Standing Committee (YTC), where young people from Southeast Asia can also enjoy the charm of Indonesian beauty.

Puan also praised the Government's efforts to promote Labuan Bajo through the official activities of the ASEAN Summit. Starting from inviting Southeast Asian leaders who attend the sunset viewing activities, holding People's Festivals and exhibitions of various products of local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as well as beach clean-up actions, and cultural performances.

On the other hand, the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture encouraged the Government to continue to elect remote areas of the country as the location of major events. That way, said Puan, the development of domestic tourist destinations can spread to various parts of Indonesia in order to improve the economy and welfare of local communities.

In a state event, the selected location must support all invitees and provide a sense of security and comfort. Therefore, the Government must prepare infrastructure improvements in the regions that will become the location of the event. This will have a good concrete impact," he appealed.

According to Puan, remote areas that have great tourism potential are often neglected in organizing state events. In fact, such events can become a magnet for tourists who want to enjoy the natural beauty and culture of Indonesia.
