JAKARTA - Airlines Etihad Airways and Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding at the Arabian Travel Market, expanding the agreement between their airlines.

The agreement will make travelers flying to United Arab Emirates (UAE) countries will have the option of arriving at one emirate and departing from another. There will be no additional fees for this service.

For example, someone flying from London can choose to land in Dubai with Emirates. Later, he flew out of Abu Dhabi with Etihad on his way home.

The idea behind this agreement stems from offering travelers to see as much as possible when visiting the UAE, and saving time by not having to fly back through their arrival airports. It also allows travelers to be more flexible in managing flight time.

"We are pleased to be working with Etihad Airways again, this time to allow each airline to offer a wide selection of new trips that smoothly go in and out of the UAE. Emirates and Etihad are taking advantage of our power to expand our offerings to our respective customers and increase UAE tourism", said Tim Clark, president of the Emirates, as reported by The National News on May 2.

"We believe that this agreement provides a solid foundation for developing further opportunities between the two airlines and is an example of our commitment to the UAE's vision of sustainable economic diversification."

Meanwhile Antonoaldo Neves, chief executive of Etihad Airways, added: "We are excited to partner with Emirates on our joint mission to support tourism into the UAE and facilitate travel to our dynamic cities.

"With two world-class airlines supporting UAE tourism, our agreement between airlines will make guests more comfortable to enjoy the best from Abu Dhabi and Dubai in one ticket, as well as promise an extraordinary flying experience either while flying with Etihad Airways or Emirates. This is a mutually beneficial offer for tourists visiting the UAE," he explained.
