DPR's Readiness To Speed Up Asset Confiscation Bill Needs To Be Supported By Government Socialization

JAKARTA - The DPR ensures that it is ready to speed up the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) if it has been submitted by the Government. This promise is considered necessary to support the socialization of the Government as the party that initiated the bill.

Criminal Law Observer from Trisakti University Abdul Fickar Hadjar assessed that socialization is needed so that there is no biased information.

"The DPR has clearly stated that it is ready to draft an Asset Confiscation Bill, but the DPR cannot move if the draft bill has not been sent by the government," said Fickar, Friday, April 5.

As is known, since the end of 2022, the DPR has approved the Asset Confiscation Bill to be included in the 2023 Prolegnas agenda. However, the government has not provided a draft of the bill so that it can be discussed with the DPR.

Many people are waiting for the continuation of the Asset Confiscation Bill which has been discussed for a long time. This bill is a public wait for the continuation of assets for criminals. Fickar stated that the Government needs to move quickly if it wants the bill to be quickly discussed in the DPR.

"This Asset Confiscation Bill is important to be discussed immediately. Not only as a regulation to seize corruptors' assets, but also other economic crimes such as the investigation of unnatural assets," he explained.

Furthermore, Fickar alluded to the narrative in the community that said this bill was rejected by the DPR. According to him, detailed socialization is important so that no party blames each other.

"This often happens as a dynamic in politics. The existence of a medium that echoes it makes it difficult for the people to distinguish between truth and engineering," said Fickar.

On the other hand, the DPR's attitude is considered quite appropriate by stating that it is ready to speed up the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill. Fickar said that the statement from the DPR could reduce public opinion that caused polemics.

"DPR as an extension of the people's hands must provide a balance of information. If there is a discrepancy with the facts and perceptions of the community, it should be straightened out immediately," he said.

Every DPR product, which is directly or indirectly related to the public, must be immediately informed. Efforts to gather information must be overcome by disseminating correct information to the people," added Fickar.

Apart from this, Fickar invited the public to check further information before making a conclusion.

"Moreover, there has never been resistance from the DPR. In fact, I have seen the DPR so far provide support because this bill is related to preventing criminal acts of corruption," he said.

"So the key now is in the Government to immediately send a draft of the Asset Confiscation Bill to the DPR," added Fickar.

As is known, the DPR welcomes the draft Asset Confiscation Bill that has been prepared by the Government. The DPR stated that it is ready to speed up the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill if it has been sent.

"As soon as it arrives at the DPR, it will definitely be discussed and immediately accelerated," said Deputy Chairman of Commission III Ahmad Sahroni.
