YOGYAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Perumah Rayat (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono revealed the progress of IKN development.

Basuki said, the construction of the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) will continue according to the government's plan, even though Indonesia will hold elections in 2024.

Minister Basuki emphasized that the development of the capital city of Nusantara is still ongoing today.

He revealed that the progress of IKN development is entering the physical development stage of a number of infrastructures and government offices.

Although no investor has yet entered, the government still assures investors that the development of the 'future city' in East Kalimantan continues.

"From the beginning, it was like that, but we still convinced you. Indeed, there have been some who are said to be in Letter of Intent (LoI)," he said.

Basuki has also followed up on investors' wishes through coordination with the IKN Authority.

"Through me, we have handed over some 'LoI' to the Authority," he said.

The Minister of PUPR said that the government already has a legal basis for the IKN Law and all derivative regulations. Therefore, investors are expected not to hesitate with the sustainability of IKN development.

The Ministry of PUPR has released an official map of the spatial planning plan (RDTR) and land use procedures for the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim).

In the map, it is also explained the appearance of the central government (KIPP) core area in IKN with an area of 6,600 hectares.

Until early April 2023, the progress of physical development in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, has reached 25 percent.

The Ministry of PUPR is currently building Government Core Areas (KIPP) such as the presidential office, presidential palace, office for four coordinating ministers, housing complex ministers, toll roads, arterial roads, dams, national axes, Wastewater Processing Installation (IPAL), waste treatment installations, drinking water treatment installations, and other infrastructure.

The government targets that in August 2024, the ceremony to commemorate the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia can be held at IKN.

IKN Development Involves Local Contractors

Previously, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the construction of IKN in parts of North Penajam Paser Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, involved local construction companies.

This can be seen from the cooperation or partnership established by State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) as the leader of IKN development operations.

All the heavy vehicles used in the construction of IKN are owned by entrepreneurs in East Kalimantan Province.

"BUMN involved in the construction of IKN cooperates with business actors and local construction companies as sub-contractors," said Basuki on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

"There is still KSO (operational cooperation) between SOEs and the private sector, and it can be seen that trucks and other vehicles involved in the construction of IKN all use KT (East Kalimantan) vehicle number plates," continued Basuki.

In the construction of the new Indonesian IKN, SOEs also formed small-scale partnerships with local business actors such as to fulfill logistics and food for construction workers.

Local MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) in East Kalimantan are given the opportunity to provide logistical and food needs for new Indonesian IKN infrastructure development workers.

"Like local catering, they are invited to work together and to buy vegetables, rice, side dishes and others from local areas," he said.

The involvement of business actors and local contractors in the construction of IKN Indonesia will only create new jobs as well as improve welfare.
