"China is deliberately increasing tensions, but Taiwan is always responding carefully and calmly, so the world can see that Taiwan is the party responsible for cross-south relations," he said.
"The Taiwanese people hope for peace, but history tells us the best way to avoid war is to make ourselves stronger," President Tsai said at the event, where he received the leadership award.
"Unstable Taiwanese tools will bring serious economic and security risks to the world, and it is important for all countries to maintain peace and stability in the region," added President Tsai.
