JAKARTA - White House officials say the United States Government under President Joe Biden observed Vladimir Putin's meeting with Xi Jinping, as Chinese leaders visited Russia, expressing concerns about calls for a ceasefire at this time.

"The current ceasefire will basically only certify Russia's conquest and give Putin more time to really complete and retrain and restart operations at the time and place he chooses," said John Kirby, spokeswoman for the White House's National Security Council on 'CNN This Morning' as quoted by CNN March 20.

The relationship between Russia and China, Kirby said, is a "comfortable marriage, not affection."

"These are two countries that do not have much trust in each other, but they have found similarities in pushing back the West, in pushing America's leadership back", he explained.

On the same occasion, Kirby said the United States had not seen any confirmation of a phone call between Xi Leader and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but prompted a discussion.

"If you're going to Moscow, and you'll sit for three days with President Putin, and you'll get his perspective on the war he started, and what he can finish today. At least you should pick up the phone and talk to President Zelensky, get a Ukrainian perspective here," he said.

It is known that Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow at around 10:30 a.m. and immediately held an informal meeting with President Putin on Monday afternoon, followed by dinner, before holding official talks tomorrow.

President Xi Jinping said on Monday the proposal to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict submitted by China reflects global views and seeks to neutralize existing consequences although he admits it is not easy.

Meanwhile, President Putin also told Xi Leader Russia was ready to discuss Beijing's proposals to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, saying Moscow had "studied carefully" the proposals.
