JEMBER - The Kalong Team of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jember Police, East Java, arrested the perpetrator of the murder with the initials TR (44), a resident of Gelang Village who had fled to Sumatra Island for several weeks.

"The perpetrator carried out this action by following the victim from behind on a motorbike while carrying a machete," said Jember Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Hery Purnomo as reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 20.

TR was determined to slash the victim Sunarto (40) with a machete in front of the Pringgowirawan Village office, Sumberbaru District, Jember Regency until the victim died on February 22, 2023.

"When the victim crossed the road in front of the Pringgowirawan Village office, the perpetrators changed the victim's vehicle and immediately slashed the victim's head many times until the victim died at the scene," he said.

Based on the results of the interrogation that had been carried out by investigators, he continued, TR did this because he had held a grudge for a long time because the victim was suspected of having had an affair with his wife while the perpetrator was still working in Malaysia.

"At that time the victim was riding a motorbike with a loud noise when passing by the suspect's stall, so the person concerned was offended and followed the victim," he said.

The perpetrator was emotional and immediately chased the victim's motorcycle while carrying a machete, so that when he was in front of the Pringgowirawan Village Office, the suspect immediately slashed the machete at the victim.

Some of the evidence seized by the police included a motorcycle owned by TR and a Honda CBR belonging to Sunarto, then the victim's white short-sleeved shirt and jeans, and a yellow cloth belonging to the suspect.

"The suspect's clothes and machete used to beat the victim to death have been thrown into the Bondoyudo Jatiroto River," he said.

The suspect TR was charged with Article 340 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) subsidiary Article 338 of the Criminal Code concerning premeditated murder with a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years in prison.
