JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Banjarbakula Drinking Water Supply System Installation (SPAM) in Banjarbaru Regency, South Kalimantan (Kalsel), which construction spent a budget of IDR 787 billion.

"The drinking water supply system that we are building is the second stage to spend a budget of IDR 787 billion, a lot. This can supply 60,000 households that require drinking water," Jokowi said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 17.

According to the President, the Banjarbaru SPAM will support clean water supply for five areas in South Kalimantan, namely Banjarmasin City, Banjarbaru City, Banjar Regency, Barito Kuala Regency, and Tanah Laut Regency.

"This water was taken from the Riam Kanan River, pulled here, about 20 kilometers were brought here, processed cleanly, then supplied to households with approximately 60 thousand households," he said.

On the sidelines of the inauguration procession, the President had time to make an impromptu quiz for the children who attended the event in person.

Three children who ventured to answer the President's question received a gift in the form of a bicycle from the Head of State.

SPAM Banjarbakula includes the construction of an intake with a capacity of 1,200 liters/second which is used as a raw water source for the Banjarbakula Water Processing Installation (IPA) of 750 liters/second, PT Air Drinking Intan Banjar 170 liters/second, and PT Air Drinking Bandarsih 280 liters/second.

Overall, the use of Banjarbakula SPAM water reached a connection for 60,353 households or 301,765 people.

Also accompanying the President in the inauguration were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Diana Kusumastuti, and South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor.

The Mayor of Banjarbaru M. Aditya Mufti Arifin, Mayor of Banjarmasin Ibnu Sina, Regent of Banjar Saidi Mansyur, Acting Regent of Barito Kuala Mujiyat, and Regent of Tanah Laut Sukamta were also present.
