NTB - The Mataram Penitentiary (Lapas) has imposed sanctions on two inmates involved in the smuggling of methamphetamine in astor cakes.

Head of Class IIA Mataram Prison Ketut Akbar Herry Achjar explained that the sanctions could be in the form of no granting of remission, assimilation, and/or transfer to a special prison.

"Depending on the level of the problem. However, regarding the problems of the inmates involved in drug smuggling, we propose that they continue their detention in special narcotics prisons, such as in Bangli or Nusakambangan," said Akbar in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Monday, March 13, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the transfer of detention to a special narcotics prison was the right step in providing a deterrent effect to problematic inmates.

"We also don't want them to stay in our (Matram prison), they affect other inmates. That is a strong consideration, we propose them to be moved," he said.

He added that the imposition of sanctions was part of the prison's firm stance in running the Bersinar Prison program (Clean from Drugs).

For the imposition of these sanctions, he explained, it will be carried out after the current legal process in the police is complete.

"So, if he (the inmate) has been declared proven proven to be involved in this case, there is a decision with permanent legal force, we will immediately propose a transfer," he said.

Two residents of the Mataram Prison who were involved in smuggling methamphetamine in the astor cake had the initials AD and MRM.

The role of the two was revealed after officers from the Mataram Class IIA Prison interrogated a woman from Monjok, Mataram City, with the initials ZZ, who came to visit with food deposited, including an astor cake containing nine clear plastic clips containing methamphetamine, Friday (10/3).

From ZZ's confession, who is the younger brother of AD, it was revealed that the astor cake containing the methamphetamine package came from an unknown man. The man only asked ZZ to give the astor cake to AD.

The AD in this case was revealed to have acted as the owner of the goods that handed over Rp2 million to MRM. Meanwhile, MRM as the party that facilitates AD to get methamphetamine from outside the prison.

Furthermore, Akbar said that his party had followed up on the results of the disclosure of this case to the Directorate of Drug Investigation of the NTB Police.

"So, we have submitted the case involving two assisted residents and ZZ to the NTB Regional Police along with evidence," he said.
