Preventing Inequality Among Students, Police Will Routinely Visit Schools

JAKARTA In order to minimize the potential for juvenile delinquency, especially among students, the Trenggalek Resort Police (Polres), East Java, is intensifying legal education activities for students in the Trenggalek jurisdiction. The local police will schedule routine visits to junior high schools (SMP) and high schools (SMA).

"This (education) aims to build legal awareness from an early age among students, as well as to minimize the potential for juvenile delinquency," said Head of the Trenggalek Police Community Development Unit (Binmas) AKP Mujiata in Trenggalek, as reported by Antara, Sunday, March 12.

To optimize these activities, he said, in addition to presenting Binmas personnel in rotation to schools, the police also carried out socialization and legal education to the students.

He said the event, which was packaged with the "Smine School" program by providing counseling to guidance on juvenile delinquency, was expected to prevent students from being involved in criminal acts.

According to him, the case of kamtibmas disturbances by involving students or school-age children is currently a public concern. One example is what four students have now assumed the status of suspects after throwing stones at a group of pilgrims' cars.

He said his party was intensifying schoolmy activities starting February 27, March 13 in the context of Operation Bina Kusuma Semeru 2023 where one of the targets was juvenile delinquency.

"We also regularly hold activities in schools, for example by becoming ceremonial coaches. On that occasion we convey education to students," he said.

There are four focuses that are the goal of police activities in the school environment, namely starting from socializing the prevention of criminal acts, promiscuity, prevention of drug abuse and illegal racing.

Therefore, in this activity, the Binmas Unit also collaborated with other elements, including the Satlantas and Satreskoba.

"In addition to the Sambang School program, we also have a shambang activity to the silat school. The point is we convey our appeal not to carry out convoys on the road which can have an impact on security and social security disturbances," he said.

He added that in addition to encouragement from the police, it is also hoped that collaboration between parents and teachers at school will become a concrete step to prevent juvenile delinquency, so that it does not fall into things that can harm the future of children.

"Because, the two figures are considered to have interacted with the most children in the home and school environments," he said.
