JAKARTA - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga emphasized continuous collaboration work between the central and regional governments as well as the involvement of various institutions to eradicate the practice of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) from upstream to downstream.

"To eradicate and prevent TIP, cooperation from all parties is needed, especially those who are members of the GT PP TIP to further increase the role of each party according to their duties and functions in unraveling and overcoming the problems causing the TIP," said Minister Bintang Puspayoga, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 10.

Bintang Puspayoga as the Daily Chair of the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Trafficking in Persons (GT PP TIP) said that the prevention and handling of TIP must be comprehensive from upstream to downstream because TIP is an extraordinary crime that violates human dignity and with various and highly covert modes.

Based on data from the Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children (PPA Symphony) as of October 2022, there were 2,356 victims of TIP reported, consisting of 50.97 percent of children and 46.14 percent of women.

Regarding the modus operandi of TIP syndicates, currently most of them are through social media and electronic devices used as a tool to ensnare their victims.

According to Bintang Puspayoga, technology now provides convenience and opportunities for actors to communicate with potential victims, even without having to meet face-to-face by controlling a neat system.

"On March 3, 2023, we have also succeeded in repatriating two women from West Java who were rescued by the Immigration and the Police, which is planned to be dispatched by Malaysia. This shows that the work of all parties in identifying the TIP modus operandi is important," he said.

Bintang added several good practices from working with all parties in handling TIP cases, including East Java Province which has handled four TIP victims, two of whom are children's age and have been facilitated with repatriation.

Meanwhile, in DKI Jakarta, namely the sexual exploitation of children in Gang Royal has been handled by the Integrated Service Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2TP2A) since 2020.

The forms of handling include legal consultation assistance, psychological services, counseling to victims and the victim's parents, health rehabilitation referrals, and applying for protection to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).
