DPR Commission II Discusses Central Jakarta District Court Decision With KPU On Wednesday Next Week

JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR has scheduled a working meeting (raker) with the General Elections Commission (KPU) to discuss the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court (PN Jakpus) regarding the postponement of the 2024 General Election on Wednesday, March 15, next week. Apart from the KPU, Commission II of the DPR also invited the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) and election organizers. It is known that the DPR will immediately end the recess period on March 13. "The chairman of Commission II is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, 2023," said Member of Commission II of the DPR Mardani Ali Sera when confirmed, Thursday, March 9. Mardani explained that previously there had been a proposal from his party to hold a meeting during the recess. The proposal was in response to immediately discuss the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court Number 757/Pdt.G/2022 regarding the administrative dispute between the Prima Party and the General Election Commission (KPU) which resulted in the decision to postponement of the 2024 Election. However, said Mardani, the proposed meeting during the recess has not been approved by the DPR leadership so it is scheduled for next week.

"The proposal letter has been submitted, but has not yet received approval (from the leadership of the DPR)," said the PKS legislator for the DKI Jakarta electoral district.

Meanwhile, member of the Indonesian KPU Idham Holik stated that his party would attend a working meeting with Commission II of the DPR regarding the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court on the Prima Party's lawsuit. However, Idham admitted that there had been no official invitation from the DPR for the KPU. "We'll just have to wait for an official invitation from Commission II of the DPR RI regarding the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court," said Idham, Thursday, March 9.

Idham emphasized that the KPU would still take legal steps to appeal the Central Jakarta District Court's decision to the Jakarta High Court asking for a postponement of the election stages. "The memori of the appeal is related to legal facts. Legal facts in the administrative verification process," he said.
