Russian Foreigners Protest The Crowing Rooster, Bali Tourism Office: If You Want To Live In A Settlement, Respect Local Wisdom

KARANGASEM - Head of the Tourism Office (Dispar) of Bali Province Tjok Bagus Pemayun responded to complaints from 17 foreign tourists who protested about the sound of cocks crowing in the morning.

The Bali Tourism Office has brought together the chicken owners and the owner of the Anumaya Bay View Jimbaran in Badung, where the foreigners live, to discuss and convey the results to the relevant tourists.

"If a tourist really wants to live in a residential area, he must follow what is local wisdom. If indeed the people there raise chickens, it's normal, right, not as a large-scale breeder," said Pemayun in Karangasem, Monday, March 6th.

According to him, the sound of a rooster crowing is something that is commonly heard in residential areas on the Island of the Gods, and the protests by the guesthouses since last week have become a new phenomenon for the world of Bali tourism.

In fact, he said, the foreign tourists staying near the Udayana University Faculty of Agriculture had been staying at the inn since before the pandemic for long stays.

"It has been conveyed to tourists that in Bali, people generally raise fighting cocks, dogs, birds, and cats. If you want to stay elsewhere, please go to the hotel, it has been offered," he said.

Pemayun explained that the sound of the rooster crowing came from across the place where the foreign tourists were staying. The owner of the seven chickens in that place is a relative of the innkeeper.

"Those who protested, one American tourist, (tourists from) Russia joined, so a total of 17 foreigners complained. So, the owner of the accommodation and the chicken's owner are relatives. He (foreigners) said that staying in hotels is expensive, meanwhile, in the boarding houses, there are nine rooms and filled with foreigners," Pemayun explained.

For this incident, he said, the provincial government will rearrange it so that tourism is more orderly, including for tourists to understand the local wisdom that exists in Bali.
