President Jokowi Supports KPU To Appeal The Decision Of The Central Jakarta District Court On Postponing Elections

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) supports the General Election Commission (KPU) to appeal the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) which decided that the KPU should not implement or postpone the implementation of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu). "And indeed it is a controversy that causes pros and cons, but also the government supports the KPU to appeal," said Jokowi after carrying out a working visit in Rancabali District, Bandung Regency, West Java, Antara, Monday, March 6. He also emphasized that the government has committed that the 2024 General Election stage will be carried out well. So he hopes that the 2024 General Election will continue to run according to plan. "The preparation of the budget has also been well prepared, we hope that the election stages will continue," he said. Previously, the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday, March 2, granted the Prima Party's lawsuit against the General Election Commission not to carry out the remaining stages of the 2024 General Election and carry out the election stages from the start for approximately 2 years 4 months 7 days. As for the considerations of the panel of judges in their decision, namely to restore and create a fair situation, and protect so that as early as possible other incidents due to irregularities, inaccuracies, unprofessionalism, and injustice by the defendant, in this case the General Elections Commission (KPU), the panel of judges ordered the KPU not to continue the remaining stages of the 2024 General Election. In addition, the panel of judges also stated that legal facts had proven that there was a condition of error in the Political Party Information System (Sipol) which was caused by the quality factor of the tools used or factors outside the infrastructure. Thus, automatically, the Central Jakarta District Court also ordered to postpone the general election which was previously scheduled to take place on February 14, 2024. The Indonesian KPU was also preparing an appeal file after receiving a copy of the Central Jakarta District Court decision.
