Central Jakarta District Court Decision Postponed Election, Bawaslu Fully Supports KPU To Appeal

JAKARTA - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) supports the General Election Commission (KPU) to appeal the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) regarding the amar postponement of elections. "We support and encourage the KPU to appeal because there is an amar decision to postpone the election," said Chairman of the Indonesian Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja to reporters quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 3. Bagja emphasized that Bawaslu did not have any proposals or plans regarding the postponement of the 2024 Election. "There is no discourse on the postponement of elections in Bawaslu," he added. Previously, Thursday, the KPU stated that it would appeal against the decision of the Central Jakarta PN Panel of Judges who ordered the KPU as a defendant not to carry out the remaining stages of elections and to start from the beginning. The decision to file an appeal against the decision of the panel of judges against the Prima Party, parties that did not qualify as participants of the 2024 Election. "KPUPU will appeal," said KPU Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Hasyim Asy'ari. In the trial at the Central Jakarta District Court, the panel of judges granted the Prima Party's lawsuit against the KPU not to carry out the remaining stages of the 2024 Election and carried out the election stages from the beginning for approximately 2 years and 7 days.

In addition, the panel of judges also stated that legal facts have proven that there has been an error or error in the Political Party Information System (Sipol) caused by the quality factor of the tools used or factors outside the infrastructure. This happened when the Prima Party experienced difficulties in submitting data improvement for prospective political parties into Sipol. With no tolerance, the KPU determined that the Prima Party did not meet the requirements (TMS) as a political party participating in the 2024 General Election.
