JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono plans to install surveillance cameras or CCTV that can detect everyone entering the Transjakarta bus stop.

CCTV, which is equipped with facial recognition technology, is targeting perpetrators of sexual harassment to enter Transjakarta transportation.

This was decided by Heru after discussing cases of sexual harassment on the bus that had been repeated some time ago.

"Yesterday when I went to Transjakarta, there was a plan to use the existing CCTV (face recognition)," Heru told reporters, Friday, March 3.

This facial recognition camera, when operating, will detect the faces of the perpetrators of abuse who have previously been recorded as carrying out their actions.

When the person concerned wants to get into the Transjakarta bus stop and bus and is caught on CCTV cameras, his entry access will be blocked. The perpetrator could not get on the Transjakarta bus onwards.

However, Heru could not confirm when this system would take effect. "For the time to come soon. Later I will handle Transjakarta and the Transportation Service," said Heru.

Recently, two cases of sexual harassment have occurred again within the Transjakarta fleet. a woman with the initials H admitted that she was a victim of sexual harassment on a Transjakarta bus on the Monas-Pulogadung route on Monday, February 20, 2023. This incident occurred when the bus was in a solid condition after working hours.

Feeling that there was a contact with the harassment, H immediately asked other passengers for help to confirm what the perpetrator had done to him. The other passenger immediately pulled H to go to a safe area and stay away from the perpetrators. Then, H continued to monitor the perpetrator's movement until he got off the bus.

When the perpetrator got off at the South Rawa Bus Stop, the victim and Transjakarta officers chased him. The alleged perpetrator of sexual harassment managed to escape by jumping into the busway lane. The perpetrator has been arrested and detained by the police. The perpetrators said the casual daily officer (PHL) of the Tambora Police Post (Pospol).

The sexual harassment of female Transjakarta bus passengers has occurred again in a series of non-BRT buses on the Kampung Melayu-Tanah Abang route via Cikini, Saturday, February 25. The victim is known to be a minor. Now, the perpetrator has been taken to the Central Jakarta Metro Police.

Departing from that case, Transjakarta is now placing TNI officers on guard on Transjakarta buses to and oversee criminal acts. Head of the Transjakarta Corporate Secretary Division, Apriastini Bakti Bugiansri, this is Transjakarta's effort to minimize cases of repeated harassment.

"Prespective officers and security officers in uniform on Transjakarta buses who have been on guard at stops, we are currently diverting to guard the Transjakarta service buses to prevent criminal acts, especially cases of predatory sex," said Apri.

The placement of TNI officers in Transjakarta buses is carried out mobile or alternating from one bus to another. In addition to the placement of security officers, Transjakarta has also tried to expand the operation of the pink bus fleet specifically for women.

"We hope that acts of sexual predators can be suppressed by the efforts we make. We also urge female customers not to worry about using Transjakarta services," said Apri.
