Handling Diphtheria, Head Of PKK West Java Educates Mother And Child In Garut

BANDUNG - The Provincial Government of West Java in collaboration with the regional government of Garut launched a diphtheria vaccination and educated parents regarding various diseases in children.

Head of TP PKK West Java Province, Atalia Praratya Ridwan Kamil directly monitored immunization in the form of giving diphtheria vaccination to children at Miftahul Huda Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) Garut, in an effort to prevent shortness of breath, pneumonia, nerve damage, heart problems, and even death in children.

Upon arriving at SDIT Miftahul Huda Atalia educated the mothers present regarding the importance of giving diphtheria immunization. Atalia appreciated the collaboration of the West Java Health Office and the Garut Health Office, which moved quickly to respond to the extraordinary incident of diphtheria in Garut.

"When I heard about this collaboration, it was extraordinary between the West Java Health Office and the Garut Health Office together with stakeholders to move quickly when this case (diphtheria) emerged," said Atalia Praratya quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 1.

According to her, with this kind of cohesiveness, the prevention of diphtheria transmission can be minimized. This has been proven, when the West Java Provincial Government and all stakeholders in West Java worked hand in hand in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Today I am grateful, for showing all of our compact collaboration. Because everyone is helping, forming the best collaboration we can provide for public health," she said.

Atalia also reminded parents to supervise their children in feeding them, as well as adequate sleep patterns. Not to forget, she also warned children to be immunized as an initial defense in preventing diphtheria transmission.

"This means that it is very important for us to maintain public health. How important is immunization. So it is important for everyone to remind each other of the importance of immunization," said Atalia.

Previously, on Tuesday, the West Java Health Office carried out an Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI) to tackle the diphtheria outbreak that recently occurred in Garut Regency.

The ORI has just been held in Pangatikan District, Garut Regency, which has been positive for a diphtheria outbreak.

ORI targets from the West Java Health Office in Pangatikan District are more than 11,000 from the age group 0-11 months, infants under two years, and school-aged children in grade 1, grade 2, and grade 5.
