SUKABUMI - A M 4.0 shallow earthquake in Sukabumi Regency caused a classroom in Gunungbiru Elementary School in Cimapag Village to collapse. The earthquake occurred on Tuesday, February 28 evening.

"From the results of the data collection of officers in the field, we received a report that under one classroom at SDN Cimapag located at RT 03, RW 09, Loji Village, Simpenan District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java collapsed due to the impact of the earthquake that occurred on Tuesday night at around 20.11 WIB," said the Manager of the Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) of the Sukabumi Regency BPBD Daeng Sutisna to reporters, Wednesday, March 1, confiscated by Antara.

According to Daeng, from the results of data collection carried out by the Simpenan District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK), the collapse of the building apart from being caused by earthquake vibrations was also due to the weathered 6x12 meter condition factor.

"Luckily in this incident there were no injuries or fatalities, however, due to the collapse of this class building, learning and teaching activities at SDN Gunungbiru were disrupted, especially grade III students," he said.

Until now, elements of the Simpenan District Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimcam) are still collecting data and helping evacuate the rubble of the collapsed class building.

"We have also instructed all P2BKs spread across the sub-districts to continue to collect data and seek information that there are still buildings, both public facilities, government, religion and residents' houses damaged by the earthquake," he added.

Daeng appealed to residents to remain vigilant in anticipation of aftershocks and other disasters triggered by heavy rains such as floods, landslides, tornadoes and others.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the M 4.0 earthquake was at coordinates 7.03 South Latitude and 106.64 East Longitude or precisely located on land at a distance of 11 km southeast of Sukabumi Regency at a depth of 3 km.
