JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmart) formed a fire volunteer task force in each neighborhood unit (RT) this year.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency of DKI Jakarta states that the total fires since 2018, 2020 and 2021 fluctuate because in 2018 there were 820 incidents, then increased to 3,256 incidents in 2020 and in 2021 decreased to 1,535 incidents.

"The middle of 2023 was indeed formed. It requires at least two residents in each RT to volunteer for the fire," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Gulkarmart Service, Satriadi Gunawan, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday.

He explained that these volunteers were formed so that residents could extinguish the fire early while waiting for firefighters to arrive.

Thus, he continued, fires in residential areas could be handled early and the impact could be reduced.

He said that later, residents who had registered would receive training on fire fighting procedures, the use of light fire extinguishers (APAR) to evacuation techniques when extinguishing fires.

Residents will also be trained to help firefighters in the field. Thus, the blackout process will run optimally.

It doesn't stop there, he said, residents will also be trained to prevent fires from an early age, such as procedures for installing electricity and the use of good gas cylinders.

Satriadi believes that with the increasing number of fire volunteers in Jakarta, the potential for fires in the region can be reduced.

"We are increasingly forming volunteers for fires because all areas have the potential to be fire-prone. How can people be empowered is what is important," he said.

Previously, several service tribes (sudin) in the region had also been in the form of conducting fire fighting training for residents.

One of them is a simulation of the fire extinguishing which will be carried out by the West Jakarta Gulkarmart Sub-dept. this year.

"So we propose four points to simulate fire fighting," said Head of the Operations Section of the West Jakarta Gulkarmart Sub-dept., Syarifudin.

The fire fighting simulation training was carried out to train residents to carry out emergency extinguishing and procedures to help firefighters.

The Gulkarmat Sub-dept. simulated a fire. In the simulation, residents were trained to extinguish the initial fire.

In the scenario, the fire will spread and residents are asked to call the firefighters.

That's when the officers came to the location and extinguished the fire with the residents. "So being trained, residents must do whatever they want and help what kind of officers are," he said.

Syarifudin continued, the activity was planned to be held in the Tambora, Kalideres and North Kembangan areas.

"We deliberately hold it in vulnerable and densely populated areas," he said.
