EAST KALIMANTAN - President Joko Widodo said the nursery center in Mentawir, Penajam Paser Utara (PPU), East Kalimantan (Kaltim), would support the concept of a green city or the green city of the State Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago.

"Indeed, the capital city of the archipelago has the concept of an environmental concept. So if it is not supported by this (the nurseries) it is meaningless," said Jokowi on the sidelines of his activity inviting reporters from the Presidential Palace to see directly the Mentawiremaian in East Kalimantan, Thursday, February 23, as reported by Antara.

According to the President, the existence of the Mentawir Persemaian which will produce 20 million plant seeds per year, is not intended to attract investors to IKN, but to support the environmental concept in IKN.

"So that the environmental concept that will be presented, ambience, the nuances that will be presented, the aura that will be presented in the capital city of the archipelago, is really not only a green city but really the atmosphere feels," he said.

On that occasion the President explained that the Mentawiremaian was the government's great commitment to preserving the IKN environment.

The Mentawir nurseries will produce Kalimantan endemic plants, especially those related to the dipterocarpaceae family such as meranti, kamer, lime, balingan and also several trees that are starting to disappear in Kalimantan, such as sungkai.

So that the IKN area in East Kalimantan, which was previously a monocultural area or one plant, namely eukaliptus, will later be filled with plants that have been planted in the Mentawir.

According to the President, plants in Persemaian Mentawir are not only intended for IKN but all areas on the island of Kalimantan.
