JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has received reports of cases of sexual violence experienced by a Junior High School (SMP) student in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. Even sadly, the victim died after being raped in a crowd.

Currently, KPAI ensures that it has coordinated with law enforcement officials and the Office of Women and Children Protection regarding cases of sexual violence against minors that occurred in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi.

"In the child-specific protection team, we must coordinate with legal apparatus and including the protection service of women and children. Any violence against children can be processed in accordance with the child protection law. If the child-age actor is of course Law Number 11 of 2012 concerning the juvenile criminal justice system, it can be used by investigators to take legal steps," he explained.

Regarding handling, KPAI said, if the child victim of sexual violence is still alive, of course, he will get psychological assistance and legal assistance from the Office of Women and Children Protection.

"We ask the legal apparatus to give the maximum punishment if the perpetrator is an adult. If the perpetrator is still a child, we have a child criminal justice system law. This child perpetrator is in addition to the legal process, but there are children's rights that are of concern," said Jasra Putra.

As is known, a 15-year-old junior high school student in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi died after being raped by a number of perpetrators. The victim's parents reported the case to the Bone Police on Sunday, February 12, 2023.
