JAKARTA - President Vladimir Putin accused the West of playing a dirty game that sparked a global war to destroy Russia, vowing to continue the attack on Ukraine during a speech to the Parliament on Tuesday.

President Putin said the West started a war in Ukraine and accused him of "symmetrically defrauding his people", saying his goal was "infinity power".

He claims Russia wants to resolve the conflict in Ukraine peacefully, but Western countries have prepared a "different scenario" behind it.

"We are doing everything possible to resolve this issue peacefully, negotiating a peaceful way out of this difficult conflict. However, behind us there is a very different scenario that is being prepared," he said as reported by The National News on February 21.

Furthermore, he accused NATO members of "playing dirty games" with "verrible lies and two-faced behavior".

President Putin vowed to "systematically" continue the attack on Ukraine and said Western countries, led by the United States, were seeking "infinite power" in world affairs.

flanked by four Russian three-colored flags on both sides, President Putin told political and military elites Russia would "be careful and consistently complete the tasks we face" in Ukraine.

"They intend to turn local conflict into a phase of global confrontation. This is how we understand everything and we will react accordingly, because in this case we are talking about the existence of our country," President Putin said as quoted by Reuters.

Fighting Russia, he said, was impossible. The 70-year-old Kremlin leader said Russia would never give up on Western efforts to divide its people, adding the majority of Russians support war.

Furthermore, Putin, who served as president on the last day of 1999 replacing Boris Yeltsin, said the West had failed to destroy Russia's economy with the toughest sanctions in modern history.

"They wanted to make the people suffer... but their calculations didn't materialize. The Russian economy and management turned out to be much stronger than they thought," President Putin explained.

On the occasion, President Putin thanked Russia for their "demand of courage and determination" in supporting what Moscow calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine.

It is known that the speech was delivered by President Putin the day after US President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Kyiv, delivering promises of "unwavering" support to Ukraine, including sending new military aid worth 500 million US dollars.
