Deputy Chairman of the DPD RI Sultan B Najamudin urged the Government to clarify and revoke the Satyalancana Wira Karya award given to the Supervisory Chair of the Joint Prosperous Savings and Loans Cooperative (KSP SB) Iwan Setiawan.

"It must be admitted that the current emergency situation of the cooperative is the negligence of all as a nation. We are very concerned about the circumstances that we call this extraordinary incident and hope that the Government will immediately reform Indonesia's operations with an extraordinary policy approach as well," said Sultan as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 20.

President Joko Widodo once awarded the Satyalancana Wira Karya to Iwan Setiawan on the 72nd National Cooperative Day (Harkopnas) of 2019 in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java.

Satya Lencana Wira Karya is a sign of honor given by the Government to Indonesian citizens because it is considered to have given great service to the Indonesian state and nation so that it can be an example for others.

In fact, continued Sultan, cooperatives have noble goals in advancing the welfare of members and encouraging strengthening the foundation of the nation's economy. He agreed that cooperative activists would be appreciated as democratic economic fighters and be entitled to appreciation from the state.

"But, if operating industry players tend to abuse legitimacy and harm the community, (then) I think the state should act decisively; even if they have been valued with social recognition and honor by the state," said the former activist of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI).

Therefore, the Sultan asked the Government to firmly revoke the Satyalancana Wira Karya award belonging to Iwan Setiawan.

According to him, the Government needs to clarify and announce the revocation of the award as a form of moral responsibility to the community, especially the victims of the Joint Prosperous KSP financial crime, for neglecting to supervise the cooperative's activities so far.

"So, it is very important for the Government to restore the rule of law of cooperatives that are often misused by unscrupulous owners of capital. Cooperatives must be clearly and firmly defined as microfinance institutions based on kinship and mutual cooperation, not as business institutions," said Sultan Najamudin.

KSP SB's financial crime case is one of the cases of default for cooperatives which cost 185,000 people with a total loss of Rp. 8 trillion.
