The Draft Of The Presidential Decree On Sustainable Media That Is Already In The Hands Of Kominfo Is In Trouble

JAKARTA - There has been a rejection of the draft Presidential Regulation (Perpres) of Sustainable Media related to publicizer rights or journalistic copyright regulations.

The draft Presidential Decree of Sustainable Media contains a draft regulation between digital platforms and news companies to create quality journalism. The draft preparation was the result of discussions from the press council's sustainability media team.

Treasurer of the Indonesian Digital Media Association (AMDI) Edi Winarto said that there are points in the problematic draft, namely the rules of the media that are verified in the Press Council which are a condition that must have 10 journalists as their human resources.

He claimed that only the parties who benefited from the Presidential Decree were verified media on the Press Council.

"Digital media with 2 to 4 journalists. You can do it, we can do it well, and organize the journalistic code of ethics. Don't let this press publisher right make the press have integrity, who have the spirit to build this nation but have no strong capital," said Edi in his statement, Sunday, February 19.

Agreeing, the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Digital Media Association, Budi Rahardjo, also questioned who oversees the process of drafting the Sustainable Media Presidential Decree.

"This will be important because it will become a reference for the press business and press freedom. Do not let this Perpres even dwarf press freedom, and reduce media business justice," he said.

The development is that the draft material for the Presidential Decree on Sustainable Media has been discussed by the Press Council with 11 other constituents. On February 17, the draft was submitted to the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) as the initiative and will soon be submitted to President Joko Widodo.

Previously, the Director General of Information and Public Communication of Kominfo Usman Kansong said that the existence of a regulation in the form of a presidential regulation is expected to create cooperation between digital platforms and press companies in Indonesia, in terms of distribution and utilization of news.

"This draft Presidential Regulation will become a legal umbrella, so later there will definitely be an implementation. This implementer will formulate and make derivative rules of the Presidential Decree on the mechanism of cooperation. Whether to split the results of advertising, compensation or remuneration, or in other forms. Later all of that will be regulated based on the institution that we will form later," said Usman, Wednesday, February 15.
