West Sumatra Provincial Government Salurkan 75.8 Tons Of Rice For Flood Victims In Padang Pariaman

The West Sumatra Provincial Government distributed 75.8 tons of rice to help flood victims in six sub-districts in Padang Pariaman Regency. "This rice is a Regional Government Food Reserve (CPPD) which is indeed allocated to help people affected by the disaster," said West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 16.

He said the assistance was handed over directly to beneficiaries in six sub-districts, according to the data that had been prepared.

The recipients of the aid were 6,314 kilograms each for 358 families in Sintuak Toboh Gadang District, 1,962 kilograms for 82 families in Lubuk Alung, 4019 kilograms for 243 families in Nan Sabaris. In addition, 860 kilograms for 50 families in 2 x 11 Kayu Tanam, 4,725 kilograms for 226 KKdi 2 x 11 Anam Likung, and 57,906 kilograms for 4,842 families in Ulakan Tapakis.Mahyeldi said that according to the mandate of the West Sumatra Provincial Regulation Number 9 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Food Reserves, CPPD is one form of government presence in the issue of meeting people's food needs in abnormal or food-prone conditions, such as food shortages, natural disasters, social disasters, food price fluctuations, and emergency conditions. Padang Pariaman District Secretary Rudy Repenaldi said that the rice assistance was needed by people whose conditions were still not fully post-disastered. "The community still needs assistance from one of them for food. Hopefully, assistance from this province can ease the economic burden of flood-affected communities," he said.

Large floods occurred in a number of areas in West Sumatra on January 24, 2023. Padang Pariaman was the area most widely affected by the disaster. Two people were reported to have died and five people were injured in the area during the flood which also caused landslides at several points.
