Drug Trafficking In Southeast Sulawesi Is Increasing Because Many Do Not Have A Job

JAKARTA - The circulation of drugs in the Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) region last year increased compared to the previous year allegedly caused by economic factors.

Head of the Prevention and Community Empowerment Division (P2M) of the Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) Southeast Sulawesi, Harmawati, said that the average drug trafficking in Bumi Anoa was due to difficult economic factors.

Data from the Southeast Sulawesi BNNP in 2022 drug abuse is still dominated by men. However, he continued, from data from the central BNN, drug abuse for all over Indonesia has increased in women.

"Based on national data from BNN in 2022, there has been an increase in the number of narcotics abuse more on women than men. For Southeast Sulawesi itself, it is still dominant for men," he said.

He revealed the motives of several perpetrators of drug abuse or who were drug dealers doing illegal work because they did not have a permanent job.

"On average they don't have a job yet, so someone offers to be a dealer, they are affected and eventually want to," he continued.

In addition, continued Harmawati, one of the reasons for drug abuse is the factor of environmental parenting and the availability of drugs in the community

"Therefore, let's fight drugs together that can damage the future," he said.

For this reason, in preventing drug abuse, BNN always intensely carries out programs that can prevent people from entering and falling into cases of drug abuse. BNN also continues to invite users of drug abuse to immediately join the rehabilitation program to be able to release ties from these prohibited items.

"It's like doing good education in the community. We also carry out programs by educating schools so that students know and understand this drug abuse, and we do that even though there is no budget," said Harmawati.

For this reason, Harmawati appealed to the entire community to avoid drugs.

"Other than violating the law, illicit goods can also damage oneself," he said.
