JAKARTA - Iranian security forces have arrested the main perpetrators of a drone strike on a military site in central Isfahan, where Israeli mercenaries were involved, state media reported on Friday.

Iran blamed Israel for the January 29 drone strike, vowing revenge for what appears to be the latest episode of a longstanding secret war.

The attack comes amid tensions between Iran and the West over Tehran's nuclear activity, as well as its supply of weapons, including suicide drones, for Russia's war in Ukraine, as well as months-long anti-government demonstrations at home.

"The main perpetrator of the failed attempt to destabilize the Ministry of Defense's industrial center in Isfahan has been identified and arrested," state news agency IRNA said, citing Reuters on February 10. "So far, the involvement of mercenaries from the... Zionist regime (Israel) in that action has been proven," he continued.

Being an arch-enemy, Israel has long said it will not hesitate to attack targets in Iran, if diplomacy fails to curb Tehran's nuclear or missile programs, but does not comment on specific incidents.

"Due to ongoing interrogation of the detained suspect, additional information will be published at the right time," said a statement issued by Iran's security agency.

It is known, Iran has accused Israel in the past of planning attacks using agents within Iran's territory.

In July, Tehran said it had arrested a Kurdish militant sabotage team working for Israel, which plans to blow up the center of the sensitive defense industry in Isfahan.

Several nuclear sites are located in Isfahan Province, including Natanz, the center of Iran's uranium enrichment program, which Iran calls sabotaged by Israel in 2021. There have been a number of explosions and fires around Iran's military, nuclear, and industrial sites in recent years.
