The Riau Islands Police Polairud assisted in the evacuation of the KM Nizam Jaya GT 34 ship carrying tens of thousands of round coconut grains that ran aground in the waters Behindpadang, Batam City, Friday, February 10 afternoon.

"The Polairud officer helped provide SAR (search and rescue) assistance to evacuate the security of the ship that ran aground KM Nizam Jaya GT 34 which was loaded with 80 thousand rounds of round coconut," said the Director of Polairud of the Riau Islands Police, Kombes Boy Herlambang, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 10.

In this incident, he said two people on board (the captain and crew) had been successfully evacuated.

"There were no casualties in this incident, two people on board were arrested by officers," he said.

He explained that the KM Nizam Jaya ship ran aground due to the mistake of the captain who did not pay attention to the coral when passing through the waters.

"Meanwhile, the cause of the ship's failure was due to human error from the ship's captain, who did not see any rocks in the waters, causing the ship to sink," he said.

For now, he said, Polairud officers had transferred cargo in the form of 80 thousand coconut grains to the mainland.

"Currently, the coconut or cargo has been moved to land and efforts to withdraw the ship will be carried out after all the cargo has moved," he said.
