DKI Provincial Government Proposes Draft Of Regional Regulation Related To Rice Reserves

JAKARTA - The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has submitted a draft regional regulation (perda) related to the allocation of 5,000 tons of Local Government Rice Reserves (CBPD) to maintain the availability of these basic needs in the Capital City.

"We don't have a legal umbrella yet. We are currently submitting the regional regulation to the Regional Regulation Formation Agency in the DKI DPRD," said Head of DKI's Food Security, Maritime Affairs and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) Suharini Eliawati at the Jakarta City Hall as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 8.

She targets the discussion to be completed in April 2023 so the DKI Provincial Government can submit a budget for the CBPD allocation in the 2023 APBD amendment budget.

Suharini explained, the 5,000 tonnes of CBPD was calculated based on the total population of DKI Jakarta which reached 10.7 million based on data from the DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

Later the rice warehouse must be filled with as much as 5,000 tons as a regional government reserve. The rice reserves will be distributed to the public under certain conditions, for example, rice price increases or natural disasters.

"We can't keep the 5,000 tons of rice all the time. If you don't use it, it will break," she said.

So far, the need for rice in Jakarta per month has reached around 82-84 thousand tons, some of which are supplied by Bulog with the current stock reaching 40 thousand tons and the Food Station.

Based on Food Station data, currently in the BUMD warehouse as of February 2023, there are 6,419 tons of rice. As of Wednesday, 15 thousand tons have entered.

"If there are reserves of rice, it is safe for DKI Jakarta to need it because almost 98 percent of food in Jakarta comes from outside," she said.
