JAKARTA - President Director of PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya Pamrihadi Wiraryo claims rice prices in Jakarta will drop significantly during Ramadan, although there has been a price increase in recent times.

The average need for rice consumption in Jakarta per month is above 80 thousand tons. Pamrihadi admitted that the Food Station only has a stock of 6,419 tons of rice in his warehouse.

However, Pamrihadi guarantees that rice stocks will remain safe. This is because there are other stocks, namely 40 thousand tons of rice belonging to Perum Bulog and the remaining stock in the Cipinang Rice Main Market is also still at 15 thousand tons.

"Not to mention that the ship will enter directly to the Cipinang Rice Main Market. So, until Ramadan, the rice stock is still more than sufficient," said Pamrihadi at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building, Wednesday, February 8.

In addition, Pamrihadi said the harvest period would occur before entering the month of Ramadan. He projects that the harvest will start at the end of February. This, according to Pamrihadi, will suppress the increase in rice prices.

"It is projected that the harvest season will be in mid-March. This is faster than the start of Ramadan. So, practically before Ramadan, stocks will return again and prices will drop drastically," he said.

Pamrihadi revealed that the price of rice in Jakarta is relatively under control. He gave an example, IR64 medium rice in Jakarta is IDR 10,105 per kilogram. Although it is still at the highest retail price, Pamrihadi said the price of Jakarta rice is still lower than other regions.

"This has decreased by Rp200 from two weeks ago by Rp10,375. If we look at some areas, the price has actually decreased to Rp12.000-Rp13,000. So, practically in Jakarta this is relatively controlled because the supply from Bulog is also consistent," explained Pamrihadi.
