PAPUA - The government and related stakeholders are preparing to merge the port management system in Papua. The goal is that fish exports can be carried out directly from Biak, Papua.

The merger is being drafted by the Papua Steering Committee (BPP) together with the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) and the Ministry of Marine Fisheries (KKP).

"To support direct fishery exports in the autonomy areas of Papua and West Papua, two ministries of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation have the authority to manage the fishery port system so that it needs to be unified into a development acceleration program in Papua," said Deputy Setwalpres for Government Policy Support Velix V Wanggai in a statement, Tuesday, February 7, was confiscated by Antara.

With the integrated port system management, Velix hopes that fish exports will be realized directly from the port in Biak.

"How about exporting the fishery products industry directly from Papua, yes, this is the discussion of the accelerated development program for Papua," he said.

With the grand design to accelerate the development of the fisheries sector in Papua and new autonomous regions, he also hopes to become an international hub for export ports.

The Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Development in Papua, Velix continued, will formulate a quick win in the fisheries and marine sectors with the relevant ministries.

"In the future, the people of Papua can improve welfare with several accelerated development programs in Papua with the presence of a number of new autonomous areas," said Velix.

Until 2023, he said, four new autonomous regions including Papua Mountains Province in Jayawijaya, Central Papua in Nabire, Southwest Papua Province based in Sorong, and South Papua in Merauke have carried out institutional arrangements for regional apparatus organizations.
