The Indonesian Embassy Has Not Received A Report From An Indonesian Citizen Who DIEd In Earthquake Victims M 7.4 In Turkey

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Ankara said that it had not yet received Indonesian citizens (WNI) who died in the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that rocked the southern part of Turkey on Monday local time.

"So far, no Indonesian citizen has died," said the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 6.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara said that the 7.4 magnitude earthquake had occurred in the provinces of Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, and Osmaniye, in the southern part of Turkey, on Monday at 04.17 local time.

The epicenter was in Kahramanmaras Province, about 600 kilometers (km) southeast of Ankara.

The earthquake was followed by two advanced earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.4 and 6.5 in Gaziantep Province, 700 km southeast of Turkey.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara said that currently 51 people had died, hundreds were injured, and a number of buildings collapsed and were heavily damaged, due to the three earthquakes.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara has coordinated with local authorities in the area and communicated with members of the Indonesian Citizen Protection Task Force and Indonesian student associations (PPI) around the location.

So far, no Indonesian citizen has died. However, three Indonesian citizens were injured, 1 person in Kahramanmaras and 2 Hatay people, and now they have been taken to a nearby hospital.

Furthermore, they mentioned that a number of Indonesian citizens in Kahramanmaras had to leave the apartment because they were badly damaged.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara is seeking temporary shelters for Indonesian citizens to evacuate while waiting for the handling from local authorities.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had communicated with the Governor of Kahramanmaras to convey a sad message to the affected communities and to convey that the government had deployed SAR teams from all over Turkey.

Then, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, said the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, said that the current priority is to rescue victims trapped in the rubble and emergency assistance for the affected communities.

Given the severe damage caused by the earthquake, the number of fatalities is expected to continue to grow.

For this reason, the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara will continue to coordinate with local authorities, the Indonesian Citizen Protection Task Force and the Indonesian people in the affected areas.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara said that there were around 6,500 Indonesian citizens who were registered to live throughout Turkey. Of these, there are about 500 people living in the earthquake area and its surroundings.

Most Indonesian citizens are students and students and some are Indonesian citizens who are married to local residents and workers in international organizations.
