JAYAPURA - Commander of Korem 173/Praja Vira Braja Brigadier General Sri Widodo revealed that five TNI soldiers are currently detained after a fight occurred at a nightclub in Biak, Papua, which resulted in the death of a resident.

"It is true that currently five soldiers have been detained and the case is being handled by the military police. Out of the five soldiers, three of them are suspected of being the perpetrators of the beating that killed Daniel Wijaya (24 years old)", said Sri Widodo, reported by ANTARA, Monday, February 6.

The Danrem explained that the incident that occurred on Friday, February 3 early morning at around 03.21 WIT, started when there was a commotion allegedly caused by alcohol at the night entertainment venue (THM) Hasel, Biak.

From the surveillance camera or CCTV footage, it can be seen that the victim Daniel Wijaya started the beating, and then several TNI soldiers responded by beating him up causing the victim to die.

To ensure the chronology of the cases, the Danrem said that his party was still waiting for an investigation by the Military Police (Kodam XVII Cenderawasih) who was brought to Biak.

"The case will be followed up to the Military Court. Of the five soldiers detained, three are suspected perpetrators", said Brigadier General Sri Widodo.

The Danrem emphasized that his party would not cover up the case and ensured that if a TNI soldier was found guilty, he would be given sanctions according to the decision at the military court.

"The victims' families are expected to have confidence in the legal process that will be given to the perpetrators", said the Danrem.
