This Couple Is Strong Enough To Leave The Baby At The Airport Check-in Counter After Knowing Must Have Additional Tickets

JAKARTA - A married couple of Belgium 'throw away' their baby at the check-in counter at Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport. They came late for the flight and realized there had to be additional tickets for the baby.

The couple checked-in for a Ryanair flight from Tel Aviv, Israel to Brussels, Belgium on Tuesday 31 January.

They then left their baby in a baby seat at the check-in counter - which had been closed by the time they arrived -. They tried to run for a safety check so they could still reach the departure gate for the flight, the Israeli Airport Authority told CNN quoted by Channel News Asia, Friday, February 3.

This video clip of the incident went viral. Which was recorded when airline staff opened a blanket in the carrier to see the baby in it. Check-in officers then reported to airport officials in Hebrew.

Check-in staff then contacted airport security and detained the couple. The couple was then handed over to the local police.

An Israeli Police spokesman said the matter appeared to have been resolved by the time police arrived at the scene.

"The baby is with his parents and there is no further investigation,"

According to Ryanair's website, passengers must pay FOR 25 (US$27) for every one-way flight that the baby takes while sitting on an adult's lap. Passengers have to pay for separate seats if they want the baby to travel in a car seat.

Israel Today news agency said the family ended up missing the flight. It's not clear whether parents can or won't pay for additional tickets for their children.
