Two farmers were reportedly critical after being attacked by tigers in the forest area of Mount Sampali, Koto Village, Central Kluet District, South Aceh Regency, Aceh.
Central Kluet Police Chief Ipda Mawarzi Lubis said the tiger attack occurred early Wednesday at around 02.00 WIB.
"Three tiger attacks victims, two critical and another managed to save themselves. They are farmers and have been staying in the garden for six days," Mawarzi said when contacted from Banda Aceh, Antara, Wednesday, February 1.
Based on reports of survivors, the three farmers were suddenly attacked by tigers while staying at a garden hut in the forest area of Mount Sampali.
The victims who were critically injured as a result of the tiger attack were Amrizal (65) and Habib (29). Both are residents of Ladang Teungoh Village, Pasie Raja District, South Aceh Regency. A survivor is M. Nasir.
Mawarzi explained that the victims were successfully evacuated and taken to the Central Kluet Health Center. The two victims suffered a number of injuries to the body and head.
"The two victims have been treated by the medical team at the puskesmas. However, due to serious injuries, both of them were referred to Yulidin Away Hospital in Tapaktuan, the district capital," he added.
Previously, four members of the forest patrol team of the Leuser Conservation Forum (FKL) were also attacked by tigers in the forest area of Mount Sampali, Central Kluet District.
"The four of them suffered injuries; a serious injury, three minor injuries. The incident was discovered after a victim managed to save from and report to the Central Kluet Police Headquarters on Saturday at around 14.30 WIB," Mawarzi said.
The patrol teams reportedly attacked by the tiger were Kafri Day as team leader, as well as each team member namely Asyari, Hardiman, and Rusdianto.
After receiving the report, the police team together with members of the TNI and a number of people left for the Sampali Forest to look for three other victims.
"The three victims were found and rescued at around 21.00 WIB. The three of them suffered injuries, a serious injury. During the rescue, the tiger was still in the forest area of Mount Sampali," he explained.
The seriously injured victim was named Rusdianto and evacuated by Yuliddin Away Hospital in Tapaktuan, South Aceh Regency Capital; while the other three victims were handled at the Central Kluet Health Center.
"We urge and remind people to be aware of the presence of tigers in these forest areas. If you travel to the forest, don't be alone," said Mawarzi.
